Bearing the Milk Burden
2006-10-31
Uruguay is characterised by extensive meat and milk production. However trade is limited by a lack of feeder roads and the poor condition of existing rural and feeder roads. As milk production has increased so has the load burden on the current infrastructure. The weight of increased traffic (animals, tractors and milk loads) is affecting the structure and durability of the roads with a negative consequence for cattle and milk producers and ultimately consumers as production is stifled.
A workshop hosted by FUCREA and the Uruguay Forum for Rural transport and Development will bring together different stakeholders, particularly those involved with milk production and transport, to discuss these issues and seek technical solutions together.
Workshop: 28 & 29th November 2006, Uruguay (Location to be confirmed).
FUCREA (Federacion Uruguaya de Grupos) is an organisation of producers founded 40 years ago. It works with technically trained agricultural producers from all over the country. www.fucrea.org
