Training Workshop - Appropriate Technology Road Works for Enhanced Livelihoods
2006-11-03
Poverty alleviation in disadvantaged regions and countries is a core focus of national authorities and international aid agencies.
Roads, tracks, bridges and small structures are vital transport infrastructure components that enable other development activities to succeed, and thus facilitate economic and social activities and reduce poverty. Appropriate technical approaches coupled with enabling social and economic support activities are the requirements for effective and sustainable transport and development solutions. The planning and implementation of infrastructure projects requires professionals with a range of skills. Essential knowledge and tools that are required cannot be learned in conventional educational courses.
This two week course 'Appropriate Technology Road Works for Enhanced Livelihoods' is targeted towards professionals who are or will be involved in road works project implementation - mainly planners, managers and engineers with a technical background. Participants are expected to come primarily from the Asian region, having similar project challenges to those in Nepal, whether in mountainous, intermediate or delta topography.
