TRANSNET organises a Mobility and Health workshop

TransNet a Community of Practice of Swiss transport practitioners organised its 11th event in Bern on December 7 - aligned to IFRTD's Executive Committee Meeting.

The main objective of the event was to share some of the preliminary findings and recommendations of the networked research programme on Mobility and Healh.  Researchers from Burkina Faso, Pakistan, and Mexico presented their findings, one of which was the lack of good coordination between the health and transport sector. Representatives from SDC's health sector as well as Sida's transport sector responded to the findings by sharing some of their ideas on how the sector should be working more closely together. The session ended by sharing a practical example from the Azerbaijan Highway II project where the transport and health sector are collaborating closely.

In addition to sharing the results of the Mobility and Health work, SDC also presented the role and potentials of transport infrastructure in pro-poor growth, as recently developed by the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Finally the outcomes were shared of the recently conducted workshop in Chad on “mobility and rural roads in West Africa”.
