Mobility and Health in Asia: Policy and Advocacy

2008-08-04

Asia Regional Workshop to disseminate the findings and recommendations of the Mobility & Health international networked research programme will take place 19th – 21st August 2008, Kathmandu, Nepal.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> Despite the obvious links between transport, mobility and access to health, a platform for articulating the synergies between the two sectors has been missing in developing countries. IFRTD initiated the international research programme - Mobility and Health - with among other objectives, the need to give higher visibility to the impacts of transport on various health outcomes. Another objective is to ensure the sharing and dissemination of various experiences on transport interventions that accelerate delivery of health services.

The proposed Asia workshop in Nepal aims at providing a platform for bringing greater visibility to the numerous local/grassroots based initiatives that are showing innovative ways of overcoming the mobility and transport problems in rural health delivery.  Showcasing some good practices in respect to mobility solutions will help to influence policy makers to pay more attention to the transport inputs required in healthcare delivery.

Objectives of the Workshop

1)  <!--[endif]-->To prepare and agree an Advocacy plan for the countries where research was conducted.
2)  <!--[endif]-->To prepare and present the Advocacy Plan of Nepal to the policy makers through a workshop where interaction between practitioners, researchers and selected policy makers is expected.
3)  <!--[endif]-->To start preparing a Regional advocacy plan and contribute to an international advocacy and dissemination plan.
4)  To agree on a common policy advocacy agenda and platform on health and transport issues.
