All You Need to Know About IRAP
2007-11-03

Integrated Rural Accessibility Planning - IRAP for short - has proved to be one of the most successful and enduring planning tools to have emerged from the rural transport field.  A simple-to-use participatory and integrated planning methodology, it has its origins in the work of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) during the 1980’s. It is a tool for local authorities to use in determining the access needs of rural communities and in identifying and prioritising possible interventions. It has since been applied in over 15 countries, in certain cases leading to its nationwide incorporation into local level planning systems. Its appeal lies in the simplicity of its use in combination with its adaptability and the strength of its analytical framework.

IFRTD has brought together over 30 of the main IRAP resources into our new easy-to-use web guide.  All resources - from country specific case studies, to guidelines and training packages - are available to download for free by visiting the IRAP gateway.
