We are delighted to share news of this important initiative, recently established to help fulfill one objective: to improve human capacities in the transport sector of developing countries. And it hopes to achieve this through an international network of individuals and institutions.
The main focus is to train transport experts in their motherland using national training institutes, teachers and appropriate curricula. Well trained local capacities are needed to plan and implement sustainable transport systems, use resources efficiently and improve planning processes. Through the strengthening of local training institutions, a solid transport knowledge base will be established, its multiplication is enhanced and thus a long-term sustainability in the transport sector can be achieved. In order to attain this, TTI will focus on the following issues:
• Review and improvement of transport training curricula at training institutes
• Implementation of training programs and modules
• Exchange programmes for lecturers and students
• Internships and trainee programmes
• Training near the job or on the job
• Targeted, problem-solving research programmes
• International cooperation and networking
The initiative will develop and implement the above programmes within a network of interested individuals and institutions. A secretariat will conduct all necessary works to initiate, fund, implement and monitor the programmes.
Currently in the project development phase, interested parties are encouraged to join and help drive this initiative forward.
