A catalogue of IMTs of Sri Lanka
Applied solutions for Rural Transport Problems in Sri Lanka (2006 LFRTD & Practical Action).

For many years Practical Action has carried out pilot studies and experiments on new transport innovations, suitable for use in rural areas, with the aim of wider promotion.

In collaboration with LFRTD Practical Action have conducted parades of IMTs through out the country and conducted an international seminar on IMTs. The outcome of the seminar was published under the title of “Intermediate Modes of Transport”. This publication is also available for interested readers on IMTs.

The catalogue provides comprehensive information on IMTs in Sri Lanka including motorized, non-motorized, animal powered and human powered transporters such as two wheel, three wheel and four wheel, modes.

In addition, information is included on dual purpose trucks used for Intermediate Public Transport (IPTs), and water transport modes, in particular traditional modes used in rural areas.

Attractive photographs are featured for each IMT alongside their user description. The catalogue would be a guide for researchers, manufacturers, users and anyone else with an interest in the subject of IMTs and appropriate rural transportation

The IMT catalgue is available free of charge to people and organisations in Sri Lanka.

Copies will be provided to individuals and organisations overseas on payment of postage.
